5 things I love about my home country

It’s Finland’s birthday today. 100 years of independence ❤ Congratulations my dear home country. I might not be there right now, celebrating with you. However, you have a sacred place in my heart, not only today, but everyday. Hooray, hooray, hooray!   5 things I love about Finland   The nature; Land of a thousand lakes. Beautiful, green forests and untouched landscapes – Finland is pure, fresh and clean. Breathing in the peacefulness, the crisp air from the Baltic Sea and the sweet taste of nature’s candy. The wildlife provide habitat to the world’s rarest seal, the Saimaa ringed seal, brown bears and thousand of other wild animals and birds. Finland’s nature calms down the soul ❤ Midnight Sun; It’s magical, and it’s filled with pure heart and light. These calm summer nights turning peacefully into dawning day; feeding us with energy. ”June is for waking up early. For staying up late. The Midnight Sun screaming for attention. June is for restless nights. June is for magic. Young and green. June is for miracles. For feeling alive. …

Plant-based protein

There are plenty of sources of plant-based protein. Whether you follow a vegan diet or not you might want to add more plant-based foods to your diet. Choosing a plant-based diet is not only beneficial to your health, but promote environmental sustainability. A typical question when moving towards a more plant-based diet is ”But where do I get my protein from?” High quality protein foods are essential for a healthy and balanced diet. However, there is a common misunderstanding that people following a plant-based diet are unable to consume enough protein. (Harvard Health Publishing; Healthy Eating Plate)   What is protein? Protein is made up of amino acids that our bodies use in almost every internal process we have. The primary function of protein is growth and repair of tissues and cells. Protein also has a transport function (act as a carrier for other nutrients), hormonal function (e.g. insulin), immune function (antibodies fight illness), buffering function (maintain PH balance of the blood) and enzymatic function (all enzymes are proteins). Essential amino acids: These are the amino acids …

Dear December…

… You are like the finest piece of chocolate. That one piece we save for last. “Nature in its purest form, only exists. She observes our every move. Shocked by our consciousness, and how it simply does not notice all of the magic it has been given.”   December is for joy. Believing in miracles. Warm-hearted smiles and music filled with heartbeats and pure passion. December is for snowflakes dancing outside our window, making every hour irresistible. Gifts wrapped up in affection, kindness and hope. It is December, you can wish for anything. Any. Thing. What will you wish for? This December is all about awareness. It is about love. It is about winter wonderland, Santa Claus and all his reindeer. December is for each and every one of us. It is for our beautiful planet, Mother Nature, and the precious time we get to spend amongst her. Let us create magic, my dear friends. We owe it to her, and we owe it to ourselves. Dear December, I welcome you. I am love-struck …

What inspires me to live a healthy lifestyle?

‘A healthy lifestyle not only changes your body, it changes your mind, your attitude and your mood.’   What inspires me to live a healthy lifestyle? My first respons is life. The idea is to die young as late as possible. I want to be like my dad. He turned 78 this fall, and he’s in better shape than most 50-year-olds. ‘It’s the turmeric, Linda’  he said today. Turmeric might well be one of the reasons. It might also help that he’s active, usually eats healthy (meaning he enjoys his cinnamon buns from time to time) and he and mum have a rich social life. Enough of my dad. Besides life I’ve another reason why I always prioritize health. Positivity & Joy Being healthy helps me stay positive. Health is much more than what you’re eating and drinking. Health is also about what you’re thinking and saying. The older I get I’ve become to realise that a healthy mind is as important as a healthy body (if not even more!) The past year I’ve been prioritising mindfulness, yoga …

My 5 favorite books at the moment

‘A relaxed mind is a creative mind.’   This November (what’s left of it) and December you’ll most likely find me sitting on my sofa wrapped in three blankets with a book and a cup of tea. I’ve developed a newfound love for reading (*NERD*). And what better way to spend a cold winter’s evening than with a good book, while snow flakes dancing outside the window. All of these books are quite different to those I’ve read before, but I think it’s important to be open-minded and to explore new fields. At least then you’ll learn something new.   How Not To Die by Michael Greger This is a very comprehensive book about the foods that scientifically have been proven to prevent and reverse disease. Chapter by chapter Michael Greger explains each of the most common diseases such as heart disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes, and how we can prevent and reverse them by making the right dietary choices. Besides all the science-based information there are also concrete steps you …

Re-nourish your morning routines

‘Every action you choose to take will either pull you one step back or take you two steps closer to your dreams. However, you decide.’   I love mornings. The best hours during the day, without a doubt. Nevertheless I’ve set some new goals for myself. Challenges to incorporate into my morning routine. These are small goals that everyone can do, and that are somewhat easy to achieve. I want them to become part of my everyday life, and in order to do so I need to stay consistent. I’m a firm believer in setting small ordinary goals that are both realistic and easy to accomplish. I will try to follow these for the next 30 days. 1. Wake up at 6 am.  I really wish to to get into this early morning routine again. Preferably I would like to get up at 5.30 am, but for now on 6 am is just fine. I will strive to do this whenever it’s possible, meaning if I work until late in the evening I most likely will …

Day Trip & Own Creation

‘psithurism  (noun) = the sound of the wind through trees.’   It was a cold and crisp November’s day when I got the most spontaneous idea to go to Sigtuna, a small and cosy town approx. 2 hours from Stockholm. Or actually, the idea came during my morning meditation. I had this voice inside my head; ‘You have to go to the cosy little town outside Stockholm that your friend keeps talking about all the time.’ I did not remember the name of this cosy, little town though. But thank you Google. I was very pleased because my friend Emelie had a day off and was happy to join. We strolled around, trying to keep ourselves warm, had lunch at the main hotel in town and enjoyed a beautiful sunset by the water. Nature and stillness – and the brain is intact again.   I received my book in the mailbox today! I have to proof read it first, and then I might order some more copies so I can give to friends and family. …

Pre Beauty Sleep

‘Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.’ – Albert Einstein Evening routine 1. Write   Sometimes I like to practise writing without having any structure, just letting the mind say what it has to say. I like the thought of not thinking too much about anything. But usually, in the evenings, my mind wish to be a complete mess of thoughts, and I allow it. Letting the mind completely unwind and relax is very important. You need that. Your brain needs that. I try to focus on not focusing too much. Something like that. Doesn’t always turn out the way I want it. I have become to realise that I sleep much better, more beautifully, if I write down my mind’s stories before bedtime. Like when you were a child and your parents read good-night-stories (hoping that you would fall a sleep before the news). However, now we are old enough to create our own stories. Although, we were actually around 4 when we started creating all kind of …

Pumpkins & Halloween

‘By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.’ – William Shakespeare, Macbeth   Is fall my new favourite season? It might well be. However, I do still love summer, but autumn… I believe you stepped up your game. Halloween & pumpkins – Let the festivities begin! And how can one not fall in love with October? Dark nights, colourful days, fuzzy socks, books, creative writing, candle lights, spicy soups, a sky full of stars, cosy sweaters and ice cold fingers. If I only had a dog. Then it would be picture perfect. Ha! One can at least wish… Photos: Emelie Lassfolkh

Breathing in the crisp air

‘When seeking pure awareness the best thing one can do is to silently witness the beauty of nature. How effortlessly she’s unfolding her treasures. So transparent, yet so forceful. Copy her, and let yourself be amazed.’   – Linda   The best thing one can do in order to relax and unwind is to spend some precious time close to Mother Nature. Especially those days when she’s picture perfect, taken straight from a fairy tale; crispy autumn breeze, colorful leaves and the October sun caressing our souls. Whenever I’m in doubt, or in need of some motivation & inspiration, I usually go for a walk and breath in the serenity of nature. It works wonders, every time. She’s magic, no doubt. After a 90 minutes walk I’ve been sipping on a large, green smoothie, cleaning out my closet, editing pictures, writing, and thinking about going to the gym. Weekends like these, when October is spoiling us with her kindness, I’m extra grateful for crispy, sunny autumn days. Heartbeats You’re not here, but that’s simply because …
