My thoughts on plant based eating

”Don’t forget: We all thrive on different foods. And healthy looks different on every body.”   In the end of December 2015 I switched to a vegetarian diet. Transferring to a vegetarian diet wasn’t that big of a deal since I haven’t had red meat or pork in approximately 16 years. I guess the main reason was my body started craving more and more vegetables and plant based foods. However, I was still eating dairy in form of goat cheese and halloumi. After a month I decided to quit all dairy products, since I’m anyhow intolerant to cow milk. At first I thought (or wished) my stomach could digest goat milk better than cow milk, but in fact it doesn’t. Imagine the struggles since halloumi was one of my favourite foods! However, quitting dairy has improved my skin, stomach and throat(?!) While eating cheese and dairy I usually suffered from skin rashes, stomach cramps and infections in my tonsils. Between March 2016 – January 2017 I followed a mostly plant based diet (I write mostly since I had egg …

Happy soul

”Of this be sure: You do not find the happy life… You make it.” – Thomas S. Monson The little things that brighten your day. Making life more joyful. The things that put a sparkle in your day. Are you aware of them? In order to feel true happiness I find it important to be mindful of the little things that make the soul truly joyful and satisfied. I’m not referring to the bigger things, for example travelling, working out, spending time with loved ones, reaching long term goals – things that also twinkle your soul and make you a happier human being. I’m referring to the small things we tend to forget about. The small things that can make a bad day feel slightly less dreadful. Here’s a list of six things that make my day more joyful. Although I might not devote time to them each and every day I try to do so as often as possible. Morning walks with a coffee in my hand. Especially now when it’s getting lighter outside. And …

How to find balance

”Trust the wait. Embrace the uncertainty. Enjoy the beauty of becoming. When nothing is certain, everything is possible.” – mindsetofgreatness – Pay attention to your feelings – Learn to listen to your body’s signals. Is your stomach bloated? Are you sick all the time? Tired although you had an 8 hour sleep? Unmotivated? These are all signals from your body, and shouldn’t be ignored. Make weekly / monthly schedules – This creates more structure into your everyday life and makes you more productive. Spend time in nature – It’s important to spend time outdoors and breathe in the fresh air. The beauty and serenity of nature will make you feel more grounded and alive. Eat mindfully –  Try to stay away from processed foods. Foods with a list of ingredients you can’t even pronounce and that don’t provide any benefits to your body. Focus on whole foods (mostly plant based) that fill your body with vitamins & antioxidants, and that can help prevent diseases. This doesn’t mean that you have to follow a plant based diet 100 %, …

The early hours

Monday! I love waking up early, especially on Mondays. The stillness that comes with the sunrise – amazing. Sipping coffee in bed and smashing out a quick workout, a perfect start to a perfect day. My number one tip to becoming a morning person – go to bed earlier and as soon as the alarm goes off in the morning jump out of bed. Don’t think too much just do it!  You will become so much more effective throughout the day. Promise you. Surely you might feel like crawling back to bed as soon as the alarm goes off at 5 am (or 6 am…) but NO- get up and splash some cold water into that beautiful face of yours and you’ll see that in a couple of minutes you’ll feel wide awake.  And hey, you’ll get to have breakfast 😉 Have a great week ❤

Random Tuesday thoughts

”The sun will rise and we will try again.”   The beauty of creativity. Sometimes it might seem like the two of you are playing hide and seek for a bit too long. But when you finally find it, you’re one lucky lady. Be careful though, and remember to cherish it, because one day it will hide again. My body seems to be enjoying all the movement it has been given lately. Feeling strong and healthy. Nevertheless, I have to remind myself the importance of resting. Scheduling in a rest day tomorrow. The brightness outside! It’s hard to explain all the energy it brings. Spring is by far my favourite month. Although it’s snowing at the moment 😉 But I know, spring will eventually be here. Raw vegan chocolate – a lifesaver every hour of the day.

Instagram & Sunday sprints

Welcome Sunday! You’re almost my favourite day. Not really, but we’re getting there. What should I do with you today? I had my coffee (or two cups) already so I’m more than ready to get on with this day, although heavy clouds are coming in. However, I’ve been awake since 8 this morning, busy making myself breakfast and working on the computer. But now it’s time to hit the gym. There’s gonna be some serious sprinting involved followed by a visit to the neighbourhood coffee shop. Yes I now, I love my coffee. Tip of the day; If you want to kick-start your metabolism try incorporating sprints into your workout routine – at the end of a gym session or simply as a workout on its own. I usually follow this set up: 10 minutes warm up (10 km/h) 15-20 sprints (30 seconds on/30 seconds off) Pace between 15 km/h – 20 km/h depending on your fitness level. Those 30 seconds on should be though. 10 minutes cool down (10 km/hour) Stretch. Remember to stretch out those …

Green smoothies

”Be calm and have a green smoothie.” Green is my favourite colour when it comes to food, as well as smoothies. Greens + Smoothie = Perfect match. I love the mix of kale and almond butter. The best. Since I prefer a sweet taste I always blend together fruits and veggies. I’m not a hard core vegetable juice drinker. At least not when I’m the chef. You might find me buying a green vegetable juice once or twice a year 😉 With that being said, below you’ll find three of my favourite green smoothies. Oh I almost forgot – I like adding some kind of vegan protein into my smoothies. Just to keep me satisfied and fuller for longer. Not to mention the almond butter. Oh well, the struggles of having a big appetite. MANGO & KALE SMOOTHIE WITH ALMOND BUTTER SPIRULINA DREAM   GREENLICIOUS SMOOTHIE
