What is love?

”Love is what love does.” Let’s begin with what love is not. Love is not ownership. Love is not the need to control. Love is not jealousy. Fear of loss. Fear of life. Love is not ”you’re mine”. ”Take my hand, inhale my breath, we wont die, as long as we don’t fall in love.” – l.m.v Love is courage. Love is acceptance. Love is patience. Love is work. Give and receive. Freedom. Non-judgment. Love is. Comfort. to sit in silence, with you, means more thana thousand of wordswith someone else. At the moment I’m reading the book ”The Road Less Traveled – A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values and Spiritual Growth” written by M. Scott Peck. I believe it came out in the 70’s, however, with its timeless message about the very nature of loving relationships it helps the reader how to distinguish dependency from love, how to become a more sensitive parent; and ultimately how to become one’s own true self. I highly recommend the book, if you haven’t already read it. love me …

Talk about what you love

”Dear life, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”   My darlings, let’s talk about the things we love, shall we? I love soft hearts, the birth of a new season, watching the sky, at night, brimming with stars. I love a white canvas, painting my life, feeding my soul. I love talking to strangers, deep conversations, I smile, when you smile. I love waking up early dawn, life’s still asleep, my heart wide awake. I love writing, feeding you hope, feeding you joy and laughter. I love the moon, the sun, and the stars. I love summer. In fact, I love all seasons. Autumn, winter, spring. I love the serenity of nature, the richness and wisdom she provides. I love books. Oh, how I adore a great book. I love walking in an empty street, the stillness, the force of life running through my veins. I love a crowded market place, a foreign country, conversations …

Self-care December

”We can never run out of love. It’s in the air we are breathing.” For most of us Christmas is a time of fellowship, joy and happiness. It’s a time when family get-togethers are more frequent, gifts and laughter are shared among loved ones, and eating a bit too much is part of the festivity. However, for a growing number of people the situation is completely different.  ”It’s Christmas time, there’s no need to be afraid. At Christmas time we let in light and we banish shade.” – Do they know it’s Christmas, Band Aid -84 The number of people, who live in poverty, suffer from addiction or loneliness, are increasing world-wide. A problem we simply cannot ignore, since its transparency in our society is getting more and more evident. The question remains – what can we do about it? How should, and can we address these problems? The answers might vary, of course, but I believe that each and every one of us have a responsibility – and that first tiny step you need …

Self-respect

”Oh baby, don’t you know. You’re a goddess. Don’t let them treat you like a doormat.”   Darling friend, feed yourself daily. Fill your plate with plenty of love, kindness and respect. Don’t depend on others to do so. Don’t ever lose your dignity and self-respect trying to make people love and appreciate you, when they just aren’t capable.   ”The more you love yourself, the less nonsense you’ll tolerate.”   It’s easy to lose sight of oneself every once in a while. You lose yourself when you listen too closely to what everybody else has to say. You might even lose yourself in your work, in your relationship or maybe you went to school for something practical rather than following your passion. Or maybe you just wanted to ”fit in”. Whatever the reason, now is the time to bring out the human you once tucked away. Finding yourself is about removing all the layers of ”what’s expected” and what’s acceptable”. It’s about stepping fully and completely into your true Self, living your purpose and …

”At least we are breathing the same air – you & I”

”We write down made-up stories to tell the truths we wish we could say out loud.”   5 AM. ‘A good night’s sleep? Merely a memory,’ the young boy thought while trying to scratch his upper back. His left hand reached out to the other side of the bed, searching for something that wasn’t there. He grabbed the pillow, pulled it close to his chest, forced himself to awaken old memories, old scents. Regardless of how hard he tried he could not forget that scent. There were people who got caught up in old memories while listening to music. It was the smell, that haunted him. He dragged himself out of bed to open the balcony door. His feet touched the raw, biting surface. He was paralyzed, and in some miraculous way his broken heart still found a way to beat. The thunderstorm had kept him up all night. He had never gotten over them, traumatised since early childhood. And the rashes, those damn rashes. He had never gotten rid of them either. ‘Will I ever …

Friday Feeling – Love

”I rather feel love than hate. It’s as simple, and complicated, as that.”   Love. The loveliest feeling of them all. Without love this world would be long gone. However, it needs more of it. Heaps of it. Don’t be afraid – sprinkle it everywhere. And remember, give some to yourself. My blog is a mess at the moment. However, my whole life is a mess! But I’m flowing with it. Accepting everything for what it is. Cause, sometimes that’s the only thing you can do. But anyhow, I’m changing things up here on the blog. An early spring cleaning. The reason for this; In February Health Food & Other Stories will be found on another platform. Yeah! Meaning this site (Things Close To My heart) will from now one only mirror my other big passions in life; writing, well-being and mindfulness. For those interested in healthy eating I’ll soon announce where I’ll start food blogging. So I apologise if the blog is a bit chaotic at the moment (chaotic is my new middle name..) …
