My brain is overstimulated. Over heated. Maybe it’s due to the ongoing heatwave, or simply cause of the constant stream of information that is flooding my external environment. It’s like my brain is screaming ”Enough!” I don’t want to see any more irrelevant updates from strangers, what they are eating, what their kids are eating, what they are thinking, where they are vacationing. My brain does not have space for it all. It barely has space for my own whereabouts.
I want to hear my own thoughts. I want to feel my own breath.
And don’t get me wrong. Inspiration arising from the external world can be golden; like the way the sun lights up the room early morning, the sound of leaves in the wind, your favourite song, a stranger’s laughter. We decide where to direct our attention – The things we find beautiful, the things that light us up. The things that gently speak to us.
Still, how often do we neglect the inspiration that comes from within? The silent whispers from our souls, that easily are overlooked. To notice this quiet, subtle inspiration we need stillness. We need silence and the ability to trust ourselves.
And we need to allow ourselves to be bored.
No, you do not need to run into the forest, seek solitude or neglect the outer world. You simply need time to rest. Time to sit with yourself. Befriend yourself.
Overstimulation creates chaos, and fragmented thinking. It makes us anxious, depressed, and unable to focus for longer period of times. Before asking ChatGPT, or a friend, for advice, maybe we should ask ourselves. It’s completely ok to do things your way, although the algorithms do not agree. It’s ok for you to live life in a way that fits you. You do not need to ask the world for permission. You do not need validation from a stranger. You are whole and valuable just as you are.
I don’t want to live in a world where everyone thinks the same, looks the same, and follows the same trends – it’s too robotic. I want diversity. Human creativity.
And for that we need calm. Stillness created from within.
What do you love to do when no one is watching? How do you want to be treated? What is your favourite flower? Get to know thyself. And inch by inch, fall in love. And allow yourself space to fully breathe.
