Believe, and you will receive

”I’m not a teacher, babe, but
I can teach you something
Not a preacher, but
We can pray if you wanna
Ain’t a doctor, but
I can make you feel better
But I’m great at writing physical love letters…”

– Beyonce

I’ve been thinking about goals a lot lately, and how I always seem to struggle with getting them down on paper or making them more clear. (Read this post about 101 lifetime goals where I talk about the difference between goals and dreams.)

I’m starting to realise why I have such a problem with thinking about my goals; It has a lot to do with my insecurities – I actually thought that I can’t achieve them. I didn’t believe I could. I didn’t even think I was worthy or that I would have enough experience or skills. But, of course I can! Of course I’ve all the experience I need! I am exactly where I need to be right now. And I’m worthy. We all are worthy of achieving our biggest dreams and goals.

If you’ve found yourself stuck in negative self talk it’s about time that you start changing your thought patterns. We all have goals, but if you don’t think you can reach them, if you don’t believe in yourself, then they most likely will end up as merely dreams.

I’ve come up with a list that might make the journey towards loving yourself, and believing in yourself and all that you’re capable of, a bit easier;

How to start believing in yourself

  1. Forgive yourself for making mistakes.
  2. Surround yourself with people that encourage you, and that see your true potential.
  3. Stop dwelling in the past, and stop worrying about the future; Breathe in the moment.
  4. It’s not what you do or have. It’s what you feel.
  5. Have patience. Don’t force things to happen, trust that they will unfold as they’re meant to unfold. There’s a time and place for everything.
  6. Find what you’re good at, and like doing, and dedicate time to it each and every day.
  7. Look inside. Don’t compare yourself to other people’s lives.
  8.  Appreciate what you have.
  9. Challenge yourself – don’t be afraid to fail. It’s through trial & error you learn.
  10. See every setback as an opportunity to learn and grow.
  11. Be honest to yourself, and others.
  12. Don’t be afraid of the unknown.
  13.  Trust your gut.
  14. Take care of your health.
  15. Don’t let your happiness depend on anything outside yourself.
